What’s New?

It’s official we have moved to Lancaster. Bournemouth it has been a blast but it is time to move to pastures new, while I complete my PhD in Film Practice at Lancaster University.

Sorry, we cannot offer any work experience or placements at this time unless you happen to be in Lancaster and a student of Lancaster University, if so please get in touch or contact the Film Department.

Since relocating to Lancaster we have continued producing films and these have all achieved success at UK and International Film Festivals. Check out the Film Festival pages for details of these films.

The Film Production Company Smudgerhunt Film

Film and Video Production Company, formed in 2014 by a small group of former Bournemouth University Students with films continuously in production ever since. In 2018 we started producing a new web series of films under the Yayu brand with filming for the next episode starting again in 2019/20, the first episode has already had success at International Film Festivals – see the Film Festival listings below.

Previous projects include Abjection (2014/2015) the SciFi Zombie short film,  shot entirely in Dorset. Motorcycle Journals (2014) the Documentary jointly written by Ian and Hazlin, shot locally in Dorset and Hampshire, and the follow-up film The Man & His Museum (2015). The future was looking interesting with demand for another Abjection even before its release to become a web series and for more films like Motorcycle Journals, with motorcyclists keen to acquire a DVD. (2015 Update DVD Released and on sale at the Sammy Miller Museum). 2016/17/18 have been busy years working on a mix of corporate and promotional videos, check out our pages for examples, and we still found time just for fun to shoot a short drama film ‘Finding Alice’ for submission to the International film festivals.

Finding Alice completed in February 2017 (Valentine’s Day) is now running in International festivals with selection by the Berlin Fast Film Festival, XPO North (Scotland), and others to follow, watch this space for updates.

2017 directors edit for Abjection, was selected by CIM Sueca Film Festival 2017 (Spain) and was the Winner of Best Picture in the B-Movie category at the Oniros Film Awards (Italy).

And more success for Motorcycle Journals selected for Best Documentary at the Oniros Film Awards 2017.

Smudgerhunt Film The Film Production Company

In 2014 the founder members, Ian F. Hunt and Nor Hazlin Nor Salam were looking actively towards making films for fun and for the film festival circuit with high hopes for their films, including the well-received documentary short ‘White Lining’ selected by 3 film festivals for screening, leading to the production of new films and further festival successes.

Ian and Hazlin both studied for their Masters Degrees at Bournemouth University Dorset in 2013/14, Ian in Cinematography and Hazlin in Directing. See their profile pages for details. While at Bournemouth University they worked together on several films and with other enthusiastic and highly talented people to create some amazing high quality student films. They are now both ready for the next step and are working on new projects both in England and Malaysia.

Watch out for them at Film Festivals over the coming months, talk to them about their new projects as they work towards and hope for further film festival success for their films.

Film Festivals – News Updates

My Experimental short film ‘Remember’ is elected for screening at the Aphrodite Film Awards and gets an Honourable Mention by the New Generation Film Festival 2020. A great way to end the awful year 2020.

I made a few films during the first Lockdown under the banner Flat 3 Lockdown Films. All shot on my mobile phone using a DJI Osmo Mobile stabiliser. Film Festivals seem to like them and they have been picked for screening in 2020. Also Finding Alice gets another screening too.

Added 3 more film festival successes for the short documentary film Yayu & The Wimborne Folk Festival – Wow Film Festival Tunisia 2020, Semi-Finalist International Moving Film Festival 2019 and a Special Mention at the Asia South East Film Festival 2019. It’s been a great couple of years for our films at the International Festivals and there is more to come. Ian (2020)

Testimonials - DCC Coastal Walks‘Ian worked with us using his endless patience and inspiration to produce a beautifully shot and edited film, presenting a complex and inherently controversial project in a clear, interesting and visually captivating way’.

relayslogo - TestimonialsIan worked on a voluntary basis as a filmmaker for the South West’s Legacy Trust UK project, RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy for Arts and Youth Sport). He also worked alongside community projects which had been awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark between March and July 2012.  Ian is a motivated individual who listens to the client and works hard to portray the intentions and messages of their project. Ian dedicated a lot of his free time to assist in delivering a successful brief and I wish him every success with his future career.

Bournemouth University - Free Your Fitness Project - sportBU Testimonials

Ian Hunt has worked on filming ‘Free Your Fitness’ sports activities over the last term. Ian has uploaded the videos onto YouTube and I was able to use the videos as part of a presentation I carried out to Sport England. The videos went down well with the Sport England staff and everyone from other Universities enjoyed watching the rewards of the work that Ian has carried out.
Ian was always on hand to meet when I requested him to, was happy to attend a variety of activities and carried out filming to a good standard.
I will be able to use the videos that Ian has done, for the future benefit of the ‘Free Your Fitness’ Project and would just like to take this opportunity to thank Ian for the filming that he has done.

White Lining

White Lining

White Lining Documentary Short Film

Where it all began, this is the very first film created by Bournemouth University Students, Nor Hazlin Salam and Ian F. Hunt, the filmmaking team that went onto form Smudgerhunt Film.

White Lining Movie PosterThis short documentary created as part of a Bournemouth University student project and filmed in just a few days in 2014 as we follow a road gang painting white lines on England’s roads.

On the face of it another real life story about ordinary people and their daily jobs, but this story has a unexpected twist as we start to look in more depth at the people and their jobs.

As we admire the skill of road gang as they hand paint the lines and circles that we take for granted, the lines on our roads, parking spaces and even the runways of the Airports.

OFFICIAL SELECTION - Hak- Is Short Film Festival - 2018But there’s the twist to the story and we develop this thread as the film progresses, be prepared to be surprised, just as many film festivals have been over the years. The full length film is not in the public domain, so keep an eye out for film festival screening dates, which we will post on our Facebook Pages.

XPO North 2015This short film in the future could be developed into a Web Series about working people and their jobs or feature in a full length documentary by Smudgerhunt Film the video production company setup by  students to showcase our films and creative talent.
